Lighting Retrofits - Just when you thought incentives were ending
We recently attended the annual Idaho Power Easy Upgrades and Custom Efficiency workshop. In an exciting announcement, Idaho Power indicated they will continue their programs to help businesses with energy efficient lighting upgrades through 2012, virtually the same way they did in 2011.
Most other northwest utility companies have announced that on either January 1 or July 31, 2012 they will have done/do away with their incentives to curb the cost of upgrading T12 lighting equipment to more efficient T8 or T5 equipment. This is due to federally mandated changes that lighting manufacturers have to adhere to by July 2012; these changes require more efficient lighting equipment be produced and used in the United States.
Idaho Power introduced their incentive program for these upgrades several years ago and since 2009 it has been our pleasure to help businesses with their lighting designs and layouts as well as specify and provide the lighting products for more than 350 retrofits. We also have designated Alloway team members that organize and complete all of the Idaho Power paperwork and presentations for our electrical contractor allies as well as help coordinate all project equipment, product and delivery.
We’re always excited to work with commercial clients, assisting them in order to achieve better quality light in their facilities at a lower cost. It's also rewarding to know that we help Treasure Valley businesses reduce their carbon footprint on this earth.
We may not be able to deliver such great news next year however, it appears the incentive program will indeed change in January 2013. What those changes include is not definite at this time.
If you are a business owner, manager, property management company, etc. and haven’t explored or experienced a lighting retrofit yet, you should do so now. Every day that you wait is a day you’re paying more on your electricity bill than you need to. The majority of the clients we work with get 50% or more of their project paid for by Idaho Power incentives and in the process these clients reduce their energy bill by 50% or more, as it relates to the cost of lighting their facility.
If you still have outdated and inefficient T12 lamps or the old gym style metal halide fixtures anywhere in your facility, or pole lights in your parking lot, there are probably Idaho Power incentives available to you by way of upgrading that equipment. It won’t cost you anything to find out how the program works and what incentives you qualify for. Even if you upgraded your lighting in the last few years there may still be additional incentives available to you now.
